British Airways World Cargo signs new freighter deal (12/04/2001)

British Airways World Cargo today announced that it has signed a contract with new UK ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) provider, Global Supply Systems (GSS), to wet lease two Boeing 747-400F freighters, which will be leased by GSS from Atlas Air Inc.

The new deal will come into operation in Autumn 2001, once the aircraft are placed on the British register. The freighters will operate to the following destinations: London Stansted, Hong Kong, Frankfurt Delhi, Atlanta, Osaka and Calcutta.

"We are delighted to be the first customer to work with GSS, a new British ACMI operator, and look forward to establishing a fruitful relationship," said Gareth Kirkwood, Managing Director, British Airways World Cargo. "Leasing freighters provides us with maximum operational flexibility to meet our customer requirements whilst developing this area of activity."

British Airways World Cargo is the fifth largest international cargo airline in the world and transports nearly 800,000 metric tons of freight, mail, and courier traffic each year to more than 160 destinations in over 80 countries.
