Statement on fuel charge (10/05/2007)

BA World Cargo has announced an increase to its fuel surcharge to GBP0.37/kg / USD0.55/kg / EUR0.55/kg with effect from 24 May 2007.

The fuel surcharge has now reached level 11 following a second consecutive week that the fuel index has exceeded the level 11 threshold. The index was developed by BA World Cargo to provide customers with more information about the calculation of fuel surcharges. It is updated on a weekly basis and posted on baworldcargo.com.

Chris Bosworth, general manager commercial development, said: "This increase in the fuel surcharge comes in direct response to the recent rise in fuel costs. We keep our customers fully updated on our fuel index and this has been a necessary step for us to take at this time.

"We were recently able to reduce our surcharge due to lower fuel prices but unfortunately the continuing volatility of the market has meant that we have had to increase the surcharge for the second time this year."
